Wikipedia beispielsweise erklart den Begriff wie folgt: One-Hit-Wonder (wörtlich "Ein-Hit-Wunder") ist ein aus der angelsächsischen Musikindustrie stammender Ausdruck für Interpreten, die nur ein Musikwerk in der Hitparade platzieren konnten. Der deutschsprachige Begriff "Eintagsfliege" hat eine weitergehende Bedeutung über den Bereich der Musik hinaus, vor allem in der medialen Berichterstattung, und ist deshalb nur eingeschränkt ein Synonym für den englischsprachigen Begriff. Andere Auslegungen besagen,dass der Interpret bzw. die Gruppe es einmalig geschafft hat, einen Titel in den vorderen Charts zu platzieren. Der Olymp für einen Musiker ist die Poleposition in den Charts, also der erste Platz. Ein One-Hit-Wonder hingegen sollte es zumindest in den TopTen geschafft haben. Markant für den One Hit Wonder ist, unabhängig von der Definition oder aber Auslegung, dass dieser musikalische Erfolg einmalig war. Es mag einige Interpreten oder aber Gruppen geben welche einen One-Hit-Wonder landen konnten und auch weitere Titel in den Charts hatten. Jedoch dürfte die Position dieser Titel weit weg der TopTen liegen und die Titel dürften auch weniger bekannt und interessant sein. Dass eine Gruppe oder aber Interpret nur einen Hit landen konnten muss aber nicht zwangsweise an der Gruppe bzw. dem Interpreten liegen, es gibt auch Songs die zu bestimmten Ereignissen wie Fußballweltmeisterschaften oder aber uz bestimmten Filmen produziert werden. Nach diesen Songs folgen meist keine weiteren Arrangements sodass die Interpreten oder aber Gruppen in der Versenkung verschwinden. One-Hit-Wonder müssen auch nicht zwangsläufig international sein. Natürlich kann es in Schweden einen einmaligen Nummer-Eins-Hit geben, der in Deutschland noch nicht einmal gespielt worden ist. Jedes Land hat seine eigenen Charts und Hitparaden, dementsprechend hat auch jedes Land seine regionalen One-Hit-Wonder.
